In time for the 9th Anniversary since the campaign was launched, Hon. Concepcion Labindao was invited to speak and share the best practices of the Municipality of Buruanga in its implementation of the Anti-Smoking Policy at the APCAT (Asia Pacific Cities Alliance for Tobacco Control) Philippines Forum 2022 held at Quezon City, Philippines on November 17-18, 2022.

She highlighted how the campaign started, how it was sustained and how it brought the municipality of Buruanga several steps forward.

But all of these wouldn’t be possible if not for the help of the few people who continuously believe that a small community like Buruanga could implement the Anti Smoking Policy:

Sir Kaloi Garcia of Vital Strategies and  Sir Rommel Arriola of FCAP and now ASH or Action on Smoking and Health, who have soldiered through the travel distance and have visited Buruanga several times, to offer technical assistance to ensure that the campaign and the policy is well emplaced;

Dr. Leslie Ann Luces, Sir July Goboy, Mam Nuelia Zaldivar and Sir Jeus Padilla of PHO and Smokefree Aklan,  who have guided the implementors in every necessary undertaking;

Sir Iñigo Garingalao who were generous enough to share their best practices in Iloilo City that could be replicated by other policy implementors;

Dr. Lily Ann Eslabra and Pastor Nick Porazo who have been the pillars of Buruanga’s Anti Smoking Advocacy, together with Hon. Quezon F. Labindao, the former Municipal Mayor and currently the Liga President, whose leadership paved way into becoming the first municipality in the province of Aklan to receive the Red Orchid Hall of Fame Award; and

the LGU Buruanga Municipal Officials and employees, especially the members of the task force who have always been supportive on this endeavor.

Hon. Quezon F. Labindao and Mrs. Thelsa M. Prado were also in attendance in the abovementioned forum
